Millions of Americans have died from opioid overdose, and millions more have opioid use disorder. To overcome this epidemic, now is the time to make coordinated and informed efforts to manage and treat patients with chronic pain and prevent opioid overdoses and deaths.

Join us in Corpus Christi for an outstanding lineup of speakers who will provide current evidence-based information about the opioid crisis, its community impact and possible solutions.

Attendees will get a multifaceted look at the issue, including:

  • EMS: Problem, or part of the solution?
  • Opioids in the emergency department
  • Reinforcing mechanisms of psychoactive drugs
  • Parental drug use: How does it affect the children?
  • Update on the Texas Prescription Monitoring Program
  • The current state of prescription opioid abuse
  • Approach to the patient with chronic pain and problems with opioids
  • Medication assisted treatment (MAT) with naloxone
  • Community resources and tools for managing patients taking or abusing opioids
  • Panel discussion: What can we do?

Target Audience

This activity is designed for family practice, primary care physicians, hospitalists, internal medicine, other specialty physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers and other interested health care professionals.
