The Future is Now: A Call to Action

February 22, 2020

Education Service Center, Region 2, 209 N. Water St., Corpus Christi, Texas

The opioid epidemic continues to worsen and evolve. In 2017, 68 percent of all drug overdose deaths in the United States involved an opioid. Now, more than ever, it is urgent for local communities to take action to improve public health and safety for their neighbors and families.

To address these efforts, this live education activity will provide health care professionals with up-to-date, evidence-based information about the opioid crisis and its community impact. Attendees will learn about new national guidelines, pain management treatment strategies, medication assisted treatment and alternative pain treatment options including psychological and behavioral strategies.

Attendees will learn actionable solutions for the short and long-term, including:

  • Review of new guidelines
  • Understanding opioid use disorder
  • Pain management of patients with substance use disorder in the outpatient setting
  • Medication assisted treatment
  • Alternative pain management including NSAIDs
  • Safe, appropriate use of opioids
  • Behavioral health

The conference will wrap up with a discussion panel featuring professionals who work in the trenches of the opioid epidemic in medicine, behavioral health, law enforcement and local government.
