The Health Careers Program offers additional enrichment activities throughout the year to further assist area middle school and high school students in learning about the career opportunities available to them in the healthcare field. Hospital Tours

The Coastal Bend Health Education Center's partnership with area hospital systems has allowed for the Health Careers Program to aid area Health Careers Clubs, Future Nurses Clubs and Health Occupations Students of America groups in arranging tours of local hospitals.

Advanced approval and scheduling is important, as these facilities have certain times of the year when tours may not be possible. Once a tour has been approved, clubs need to provide their own transportation to and from the tour site and make any necessary meal arrangements. Prior to the actual hospital visit, all students need to have completed appropriate hospital forms and inquire about any minimum age requirements.

Speakers Bureau

Students interested in health careers can gain a great deal by having the chance to hear and speak with individuals currently employed in a medical profession and those instructors whose academic programs lead to medical professions.

The Health Careers Program has partnered with area physicians, educators and other healthcare-related professionals to develop a speakers bureau. Through the Health Careers Program speakers can be arranged to present at club meetings and/or special events on a variety of topics.
