The Health Careers Program has hosted a Health Careers Discovery Camp each summer since 2008.

Future Health Professionals Conference

The 16th Annual Future Health Professionals Conference was held at Texas A&M International University in Laredo on April 10, 2018. Each year the Health Careers program works in conjunction with area universities, colleges and the medical community to host a special conference for middle and high school students that highlights the range of health care professions available to them.

This year's event showcased degree programs that included nursing, respiratory therapy, surgical technology, pharmacy, and first-response care. Students got to learn basic skills in each area and hear from the professionals about day-to-day job responsibilities.

The conference offers students a rare, firsthand look at what these careers entail and the steps necessary to pursue such careers following high school. The ultimate goal of the conference is to inspire and encourage these students to choose health care careers for themselves and return to the region to help meet the needs of the Coastal Bend and surrounding areas.
