Future Health Professionals Conference

February 23, 2016 marked the 14th year for the Coastal Bend Health Education Center's annual Future Health Professionals Conference. Each year the Health Careers program works in conjunction with area universities, colleges and the medical community to host a special conference for middle and high school students that highlights the range of health care professions available to them.

This year's event took place at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and showcased degree programs that included nursing, respiratory therapy, surgical technology, kinesiology and pharmacy technology. Students got to learn basic skills in each area, then put them to the test by taking part in a disaster drill.

The conference offers students a rare, firsthand look at what these careers entail and the steps necessary to pursue such careers following high school. The ultimate goal of the conference is to inspire and encourage these students to choose health care careers for themselves and return to the region to help meet the needs of the Coastal Bend and surrounding areas.

Health Careers Discovery Camp

Since 2008, the Health Careers Program has hosted a Health Careers Discovery Camp each summer.

This intensive camp provides a select group of students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage in a variety of health-related careers in a hands-on environment. Partnering with professionals and educators from numerous health care fields, this camp allows students to explore their future health care options

This year, CBHEC is partnering with South Coastal Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to provide a two-week Health Science Academy from June 13 - 23 at Del Mar College - West Campus for students in grades 9 -12. Participants will receive training in:

  • Nursing
  • Pharmacy
