Professional Education

The Diabetes Education Program partners with a variety of educational institutions in an effort to increase the level of understanding and care provided to those diagnosed with diabetes.

Educators

In compliance with the Texas Legislature's House Bill 984, Diabetes Management of School Children, the Diabetes Education Program provides diabetes care assistant training for non-licensed school employees who care for elementary and secondary school students with diabetes. Participants may register online, or call 1-866-524-1408 for more information.

PLEASE NOTE: For payment processing, please call (361)221-0912 or (361)221-0922.

Health Professions Students

Dietitians

Through a partnership with Texas A&M University-Kingsville, the Diabetes Education Program offers a two-week, clinical site internship for dietetic interns. Interns assist with obtaining labs, calculating meal plans and providing nutritional instruction in the diabetes self-management classes.

Nurses

Nursing students from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi work alongside our health educators to learn the difference between hospital care and community patient care. They get to experience the partnership between the patient, physician and our health educators in helping the patient understand diabetes and preventing its complications.

Pharmacists

Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy has pharmacy students participate in the diabetes self-management classes. They also participate in local health fairs, providing screenings and diabetes information to the community.

Health Professionals

We provide accredited continuing medical education opportunities for health care professionals throughout the year. Our annual diabetes conference features notable speakers and provides continuing education credit for physicians, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, dietitians and others interested in learning the latest standards, research and technology in diabetes care.
