
The Texas A&M Health Science Center Coastal Bend Health Education Center, established in 1999 through Senate Bill 590, is committed to improving the quality of health care by advancing the knowledge and skills of health care professions, students and the community. The center provides community-based educations opportunities for health professional, supports programs designed to foster recruitment into health-related professions among underrepresented populations and sponsors community outreach efforts in the 19-county Coastal Bend region.
Programs
Continuing Medical Education
The Continuing Medical Education department of CBHEC currently offers 16 on-going lectureship series both as an urban and rural outreach.
Diabetes Education Program
Our Diabetes Education department is a community-based program that provides patient education to the community regarding the treatment and care of diabetes.
Health Careers and Early Admission Program
The Health Careers Program is committed to recruiting students into health care careers and to providing educational events related to health care occupations and professions.
Prescription Assistance Program
The Prescription Assistance Program assists clients with filling out drug company applications that offer a limited supply of free or low-cost medications through their assistance programs. These individuals have no health insurance and limited or no perscription coverage.
Library and Health Information Education
The Library and Health Information Education program provides support for and advances the knowledge and skills of health care professionals, students and community members by providing library education and literature research support in the local hospital libraries and in the community.
Dental Mobile Unit
The dental mobile unit is available to serve those underinsured in our community and to assist with the teaching of future dental professionals. Our mobile unit is currently under contract with Coastal Bend College in Beeville for teaching and training of dental hygiene students for the 2007 - 2008 school year.
